Shortened to just two days this year thanks to COVID-19, the mega-event will be the next-to-last points races for the Summit USMTS National Championship fueled by Casey’s and will also feature the nation’s top USRA B-Mod racers both nights in the Christie Door Company Iron Man Challenge built by Medieval Chassis.

The high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval located in the rolling hills of Southern Minnesota will be host to the world’s elite open-wheel dirt modified drivers as this year’s blockbuster has a few alterations due to the COVID-19 pandemic with the USMTS and Deer Creek Speedway staff looking to keep peace with State of Minnesota regulations regarding gatherings and social distancing.

This year’s event will be a two-day show on Friday and Saturday, September 25-26, and will feature a $5,000-to-win, $400-to-start main event on Friday with a $10,000-to-win, $550-to-start feature on Saturday, plus the annual $2,000-to-win Non-Qualifiers Race.

Again this year the Christie Door Company Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA B-Mods will be racing for $1,000 and $1,200 to win, respectively, on Friday and Saturday with valuable Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points up for grabs.

There is no practice night his year and hot laps will be on Friday at 6 p.m. only. There are no plans to have hot laps on Saturday.

The top 15 in heat race passing points are locked into “A” Main each night with the top 8 redrawing for the first eight starting positions. An additional 15 drivers will advance from the “B” Mains and 30 cars will start the main event each night in both classes. Saturday’s championship features will go three-wide for the green flag starts.

The list of former USMTS winners here could serve as dirt modified racing’s half of fame class. Nine-time USMTS national champ Kelly Shryock won the first-ever USMTS contest here in 2002 but his 10 career wins at Deer Creek puts him second on the list behind Jason Hughes, who has a series-best 14 victories here. Rodney Sanders has also garnered 10 checkered flags here.

Ryan Gustin has seven wins while Tim Donlinger and Terry Phillips each have five, along with defending USRA Modified national champion Brandon Davis, who won this event last year and recently became the track’s all-time winningest driver.

Jason Cummins and Brad Waits have four apiece and three wins are noted by Cade Dillard, Zack VanderBeek and Joey Jensen. Two-time winners include Corey Dripps, Jason Krohn, Ryan Ruter, Stormy Scott, Lucas Schott, Johnny Scott and Dustin Sorensen.

Drivers who have visited victory lane here one time include Mark Noble, Steve Wetzstein, Darin Walker, Tony Fraise, Dan Daniels, Chad Kinder, Mark Burgtorf, Brad McEwan, Randy Timms, Dean Mahlstedt, Tommy Myer, Mike Sorensen, Mike Spaulding, Dan Chapman, Les Duellman, Mike Hejna, Steve Arpin, Jon Tesch, Jordan Grabouski, Jeremy Payne, Craig Thatcher, Tommy Weder Jr., Dereck Ramirez, Jacob Bleess and Jake O’Neil who recently won the 15th Annual J&S JCB USMTS Labor Day Duel here.
